Poured in Boston with love.
Welcome, I’m Johanna.
Always a candle fan, but sensitive to fragrance and chemicals, I started researching safer alternatives to the everyday paraffin wax candles that are so easy to come by. With the help of so many friends, I had a period of testing and perfecting my product of a safer, but still beautiful, candle. In June of 2020, Triple Decker Candle Company was born from there.
Located in Dorchester, Boston, each candle is hand poured from a small batch, using 100% soy wax. Our candles are free of dyes, phthalates, and adhere to RIFM (Research Institute for Fragrance Materials) standards. We only use organic cotton wicks, coated in natural wax.
We change our fragrances seasonally, but will keep our personal favorites (and those of our friends and family) stocked up all year long. Help us spread the word and love for natural candles.
Our brand is rooted in philanthropy and a desire to make the world a better place. We are committed to hosting a fundraiser candle quarterly, with 50% of sales being donated back to our community.
In 2021 we donated $3,640 of sales to Boston-area nonprofit organizations. In 2022 we donated $4,365. In 2023 we donated $10,030!
We work with other small businesses and local artists to help support our community. Our retail space is home to many lovely locally made gifts.
Thanks for shopping small with me!
Our Values.
Anyone can sell soy candles. There is so much more to Triple Decker Candle Co. than that. Here are the three values in which we are rooted:
-
We don’t believe in a meaningless existence. We make a living by what we give, not what we get. We host quarterly fundraising candles for local nonprofit organizations.
-
We believe artists should be paid well for their work in all the ways it is used.
-
We believe in supporting small first. We shy away from chain stores, coffee shops, and dinning. We carry the work of over 11 small businesses in our shop.
Our wax.
Triple Decker Candle Co. only uses 100% soy wax. Soy wax is natural, sustainable, vegan, and eco-friendly.
More about soy wax:
Soy wax is vegetable based and is made from the oil of soybeans. After harvesting, the beans are cleaned, cracked, de-hulled, and rolled into flakes. The oil is then extracted from the flakes and hydrogenated. The hydrogenation process converts some of the fatty acids in the oil from unsaturated to saturated. This process dramatically alters the melting point of the oil, making it a solid at room temperature. The leftover bean husks are commonly used as animal feed. The U.S. grows the vast majority of the world's soy beans, primarily in Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana. Soy wax is biodegradable and CO2-neutral.
Soy burns cooler than paraffin wax. Soy wax candles burn 40-50% longer than paraffin candles of the same size.
